Torben Brostrøm
(born 1927) should be seen as Danish literary criticism's grand old man. He has been reviewing literary works for the newspaper Information since the middle of the 1950s and with his exceptional ability to master literary tendencies has left his personal mark on Danish literature. Thus, it is impossible to talk about Danish "modernism" without mentioning Torben Brostrøm. As editor of the periodicals "Hvedekorn" and "Vindrose" he has influenced the Danish literary debate from the 1950s until today and he remains active. Brostrøm's strength lies in his ability to communicate and impart knowledge - an ability which is based on his wide reading. This applies primarily to his contribution to Danish literature but his knowledge about Scandinavian literature is also an essential quality in his literary efforts.
